# Headline gap surfaced by Exercise 0001 critique; addressed by L0007

Exercise 0001 (Superset vs Holistics workflow comparison) produced a technically clean slide grid: alignment tight, repetition consistent, typography correct, palette controlled. The critique identified the top leverage gap as the missing thesis statement: the slide was labelled "DEVELOPMENT WORKFLOW" (a topic, not a conclusion) and expected the viewer to derive the takeaway from the diagram alone.

This is a different category of problem from CRAP/hierarchy/typography/colour: it lives above the visual-craft layer, in message strategy. Built L0007 (Message-First Design) to address it directly. Lesson uses BLUF / Minto Pyramid, the squint test, three headline patterns (contrast, outcome, surprise), and the user's own Superset/Holistics slide as the worked example.

Pattern for future critiques: when an exercise reveals a gap, build the lesson that closes it before moving to new vocabulary. The diagnostic-then-corrective sequence binds theory to the user's actual practice.

Recurring blind spot to watch for: user defaults to topic labels on titles. After L0007 lands, score future exercises specifically on the headline before scoring anything else. If the headline isn't a conclusion, the rest of the design is wasted leverage.
